HARRIERS.
TEAMS MEET AT ASHBURTON. The third contest at Ashburton between the Anglican harrier clubs of Timaru and Christchurch was won by Christchurch. The trail, leaving St. Stephen’s schoolroom, led down tire railway line to Albert Street. The open country of the Ashburton High School farm was covered, and from there the trail led over good mixed country to the glass works, and finished down West Street. The field started, off at, a fast pace, and at the high school farm gate, a mile from the start the leaders were Valentine, Taylor and Darby, of Timaru, and Penny (Christchurch). A mile further on Savage (Christchurch) had taken the lead from Taylor, Penny, Darby and Brady (Christchurch). The order was unchanged at the glass works, about a mile and a half from the finish, and Taylor went on to . win by aboyt 20 yards from Darby, with similar distances separating Darby, Penny and Savage. The course was about, six miles. . The team’s race for the mter-club trophy was won by Christchurch by 35 points to 48.
