THE ASHBURTON CLUB. v MEDAL MATCHES PLAYED. —— ' Senior and junior medal matches were played by members of the Ashburton Golf Club on Saturday afternoon. Weather conditions were perfect and in order to save the fairways teeing up was made compulsory. In the senior match C. J. Bonnington, R. B. Lambert, and_T. Forrest tied with a net score of 67, while the junior match was won by J. Bathgate with a net score of/63. The best cards handed in were:—

CHRISTCHURCH BEATS OTAGO

CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. Strong teams from the Christchurch and Otago Golf Clubs met at Slnriey to-day for the annual matches tor the Hanmer • and Campbell Hosking Shields. Canterbury won by 7to 5. A feature of the day was the match in which B. V. Wright (New Zealand amateur champion) heat A. R- Blank (Shirley champion) by 6 and 5. Wright was round in 70, two less than the scratch score.- of the course, andi did the first half in 33. ■ Matches resulted, Otago names first: Foursomes. Wright and Ferguson drew with Blank and Ward. Ross and Siine drew with Arnould and E. M. Macfarlane. Laidlaw aiid Scoullar lost to Tosswill and Pumphrey, 1 down. MdDouga.il and Pollock lost to Freeth and Dougall, 1 down. Singles. Wright beat Black, 6 and 5. Ross beat Ward. 2 andi 1.. Sime heat Macfarlane, 3 and 2. Scoullar lost to Arnould, 2 and 1. Laidlaw beat Tosswill at the 19th. Ferguson lost to Pumphrey, 3 and 2. McDougall lost to Freeth. 4 and 3. Pollock lost to Dougall at the 20th. SEVEN THREES IN ROUND. ADELAIDE, August 12. W. S. Rymill equalled the course record of sixty-nine in the second qualifying round of the State -golf championship yesterday. His card in the afternoon included seven threes.
