MOTORIST FINED.
SAFETY ZONE DAMAGED. (Special to the "Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The man who caused the damage to the safety zone in Cathedral Square on July 21 last, Pers* Albert Turner, was fined £2 and costs in the Magistrate's Court yesterday for negligent driving. The defendant did not appear. Sergeant A. Leckie said that the incident occurred at 12.55 a.m. Tiie car passed him at a speed of from 15 to 20 miles an hour, and knocked the end out of the zone. The driver gave as his excuse the reason that his passenger attracted his attention, and as he turned his head he must have swung the wheel involuntarily.
