Croom batted confidently on an easier wicket, making fifty-one out of seventy-five in 95 minutes. He hit nine fours. Wyatt was uncomfortable against Fleetwood-Smith, who got him leg before with a ball coming through quickly. \ Santall and Cranmer hit hard, adding 50 in 45 minutes. The innings lasted 185 minutes. Ten thousand people saw Australia open' their second innings. McCabe and Brown were not inspiring, the latter batting 100 minutes for, his 25. McCabe was in excellent form but was rather subdued. He batted 145 minutes and hit 10 fours. „ Kippax was uncomfortable and failed to-day, but Darling was very aggres.sive and attractive, reaching 50 in 75 minutes.
