OBITUARY.
MR EDWARD WILLIAM KANE.
CLERK OF PARLIAMENTS. WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr Edward* William Kane, Clerk of Parliaments, died to-day, after a brief illness.
Mr Kane, who was born in Wellington, was a son of Mr Henry Russell Kane. He was educated at the Catholic School,. Wellington, and then at; a commercial school. He was articled to a barrister and solicitor, and passed the solicitors' general knowledge examination, but had to discontinue his studies owing to ill-health. He joined the. Parliamentary staff in 1886, occupying the positions of Clerk of Committees, reader, Clerk of Bills, clerk assistant, and then Clerk of the House of Representatives. In 1930 he was appointed Clerk of Parliaments and of. the Legislative Council. Tie was created Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1929. Mr Kane in 1921 married Rosetta (widow of the late Mr F. E. Baume), who died a few months ago.
