THE OFF-SIDE RULE
REGULATION TO BE AMENDED.
OBSERVANCE URGED. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Seen to-day in reference to a Magistrate (Mr Maunsell, of Nelson) dismissing an information against the driver of a motor vehicle for failure to observe the off-side rule, the Transport Commissioner intimated that Mr Coates was taking immediate steps to have the clause in the regulations amended to clear up any confusion. The Commissioner said that the alteration would definitely retain the principle of motorsts giving way to all. traffic approaching from the right at intersections if a collision seems likely. Until such time as the statute can be broadened to empower the Government to include all traffic in the regulation, the Ministry of Transport urges that, in the interests of public safety and uniformity, drivers of any 'kind of vehicle, also push cyclists, should universally observe the off-side rule. Trains are exempt.
