Mr D. J. Morrow (chairman of the Ashburton County Council) left yesterday to- spend a holiday at Rotorua.
Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., of Timaru, who has been assisting Mr E. Page, S.M., at Wellington for a period, returned south by the express train this morning. i .
• The Rev. A. J. Petrie, of Ashburton, will be the speaker at the evening meeting of the retreat to be held by the Christchurch Christian. Youth Council on Cashmere Hills on Monday. This meetifig will be open to all senior members of Bible classes and kindred youth organisations.
Mr H. Montgomery, of Ashburton, has been temporarily appointed to the staff of the Ashburton Technical High School in place of Mr L. M. Hobbs, who left yesterday to join the staff of tne Westport Technical High School as woodwork instructor. Mr Montgomery will be relieving at the_ school, until a successor to Mr Hobbs is appointed.
Reference to the death of Colonel John Studholme, a former president of the Mid-Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union, was made at' the conference of farmers in Ashburton yesterday afternoon, when a .vote of sympathy with the relatives' was carried in silence
Mr W. AUnutt (manager of the Whakatane branch of the Union Bank of Australia for the last two years) has been promoted to senior sub-inspector of the New Zealand division. He wall be succeeded at Whakatane by Mr J. B. Stewart '(manager of the Feilding branch). 1
Mr A. D. Keeling (manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand) will shortly retire after 42 years’ service on the staff of the bank. Mr Keeling has been manager at New Plymouth for the last 11 years, and prior to that was manager of, the Apia, Samoa, branch. He will be succeeded at New' Plymouth by Mr A. M. Thomson (manager of the North Epd, Wellington, branch).
Mr O. Sussenis (manager of the Napier branch of the Commercial; Bank of Australia) has received advice of his transfer to the inspectors’ department, of head office at Melbourne. Mr Sussems came to New' Zealand from Ulverstohe, Tasmania, having been appointed manager of the Oamaru branch of the Commercial Bank. In September, 1927, he was transferred to the Napier branch, taking the place of Mr F. B. Barker, who has since been appointed to the Wellington branch.
