DROUGHT IN UNITED STATES.
NO HOPE FOR SMALL GRAIN.

Unparalleled losses in crops reported as a result of the heat and drought, shot prices of wheat at Chicago up five cents, the extreme advance permitted in early trading of enormous volume to-day. Trade advices said that all hope for small grain in many parts of the west and north-west United States had been abandoned and reports from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Texas said that 1,000,000 cattle would be slaughtered to relieve farmers where shortages of feed prevail.
WESTERN CANADIAN DROUGHT. CONTINUANCE IN THE WEST. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) MONTREAL, May 31. A Winnipeg message states that continuance of the drought in Western Canada sent wheat upward by six cents a bushel to-day, closing quotations being about 5t net higher.
PREPARING FOR AN EXODUS.
SOUTH-EAST ALBERTA. FARMERS
(Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) MONTREAL, May 31. A Winnipeg message states that alon" a 50-mile front in south-eastern Alberta drought, grasshoppers, and soil-shifting have ruined all the crops Farmers are preparing for a general exodus.
