UNITED STATES PROPOSAL. MEASURE PASSED BY THE HOUSE (United Press Association —Copyright). (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 31. The House of Itrepresentatives today passed, and sent to the Senate, the Administration’s Silver Bill, the main objective of which is to use silver as a backing for a quarter of the United States currency, compared with threequarters backed by gold. Early favourable activity by tlie Senate is expected. Although members of the Democratic silver bloc, who wanted even broader legislation, contended that the measuie was just “a silver brick” and would result in prolonging the depression for 10 years. Republicans attacked the proposal as involving unsound monetary principles.
