HIGHEST AGAINST AUSTRALIA. SANDHAM'S DOUBLE CENTURY. GREGORY !N THREE FIGURES. THREE WICKETS FOB 372 RUNS. (United Press Association—Copyright), (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 30. The cricket match between Australia and Surrey began to-day at the Kennhigton Oval. Australia again lost the toss, and Hobbs and Sandham opened for Surrey. Surrey has the strongest batting side that the Australians have yet encountered. Hobbs and Sandham opened to McCabe and Wall, who was making the ball kick. Hobbs had been playing with his customary grace and confidence, when at 22 he hit a long hop from Grimmett hard overhead. Wall, jumping, just got his fingers to the ball, which were injured, causing him to leave the field. Fleetwood-Smith replaced him. Wall dislocated the little finger of his right hand. A doctor reset it. Grimmett and O'Reilly pegged the batsmen down so completely that a tedious hour produced only 37 runs, when Hobbs, endeavouring to glance Grimmett, was out leg before. A featureless 90 minutes' play before luncheon" produced 73 runs. Wall re-opened the attack after tne adjournment. Gregory and Sandham were much brighter. Sanuham cut and drove ail the bowlers with equal ease.. Woodful rang many bdwlmg changes, but the batsmen, on an excellent wicket, went steadily along. Sandham's 100 took 196 minutes. . Gregory was missed by 0 Reilly an a gully off Wall when the batsman was' 90. Gregory then reached the century in 70 minutes. , .
