OIL ON LINER’S DECK.
PASSENGER SLIPS IN SCUPPERS. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 29. Last night, when the liner Mauooganui was- replenishing her fuel oil supplies, one of the tanks, the capacity of which apparently nad been overestimated, filled up and spouted crude oil over a wide area of the decks. All to-day men were busy scraping the previously immaculate teak planks, but in spite of their, efforts the ship was delayed in her departure for Sydney two hours. Considerable inconvenience was suffered by the personnel of the ship, but the worst sufferer was a through passenger, who, arriving late at; night, tried, to negotiate the oilcovered deck. lie slipped and fell, finishing up in the scuppers, where most of the oil was.
