The Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Air J. H. Thomas), in answer to a question, said he had welcomed the conciliatory tone of! Air Sean AlcEntee’s recent statement in the Dail, which he had thought might be an opening .toward settlement of tlie differences, but later Alinisterial speeches in the Free ,State had not confirmed this view. Sir P. A. Harris: “Won’t you take the initiative?” Air Thomas: Within a week of Air AlcEntee’s statement, Air de Valera stated that Ireland will never pay.
