LINWOOD TO PLAY ASHBURTON. \ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening it was decided that the Linwood Club should provide a senior team to travel to Ashburton on June 4 and play an Ashburton representative side'. Tlie names of the Linwood and Sydenham clubs were received as willing to make the trip, and the two names were placed in a hat and a draw made.

ALLEGED ILLEGAL TACTICS. CHRISTCHURCH, May 29. A complaint of _ the extraordinary amount of obstruction by players _ in the first grade match between Christchurch and Merivale on Saturday was made to the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rughv Union in a letter from Mr S. Hollander, the

referee of the match. After discussion the subject of the letter was referred to a meeting of coaches to be held tomorrow night, when an appeal will be made to these officials to co-operate in stamping out such illegal tactics.

THE ASSOCIATION CAME.

NO TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON, May 29. That Newi Zealand is not to receive an Australian Soccer team this year was a decision reached at a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association this evening when a cablegram was read from the Australian Soccer Football Association advising that the States had determined that a tour was impossible unless a definite monetary offer was made. The chairman (Mr B. L.' Salmon) said that New Zealand could make no offer. Concerning a proposal to send a primary schoolboys’ team to Australia, the secretary (Mr A. Williams) announced that most of the associations were against the scheme. ‘ We are not getting any further ahead with it,” lie said. On the motion of Mr Salmon no action was taken, on a proposal to receive a Fijian eleven. It was stated in the letter that the Fijian players were temperamental. “We don’t want any temperamental teams,” a member remarked.
