“BRIDE SHIP.”
ROMANTIC CAREER ENDED.
MONTREAL, April IS. News that the Canadian Pacific steamship Metagama is to he broken up will come to thousands of 1 those Who travelled in her as the loss of an old friend. The Metagama was a ship with a personality. She was launched on the Clydeside in 1915, was put in the Atlantic service, and in the period of immigration following the World War carried so many young women from the United Kingdom to meet their prospective husbands in Canada that she became known l as “the bride ship.” For years Sir Malcolm Campbell presented a bouquet to each prospective bride sailing on the Metagama. Officers of the ship, and some faithful and regular patrons, formed themselves into what they called “The Order of Noble Metagamians” with Sir Malcolm as patron. A sister ship, the Missanabie, was torpedoed and sunk in September, 1918 with a loss of 45 of-her passengers and crew.
