(Per' Press Association). AUCKLAND, May 28. "It was a rather stupid thing to do," said Eva Turner, a girl stowaway, who arrived in Auckland from Sydney by the Niagara. Miss Turner, who is a South Australian, stowed awayi at Sydney and was discovered on board after .the liner's departure for Auckland. She was detained oil board tonight pending consideration .of her Miss Turner is aged about 26. She was questioned by Customs and police offioars on board the Niagara this afternoon. Subsequently, in the course of an.interview, she.said she realised S that she had embarked on a foolish escapade. "I came from South Australia originally," she said, "but I was in Sydney, out of work, > with no prospects of finding work. I decided to get on board the Niagara before she sailed, in the hope of getting to Canada. I just walked on board and mingled with the passengers. I realise now that it was a rather foolish thing to do. 1 hardly suppose I shall be allowed to remain in New Zealand." Miss Turner was discovered in the first-class accommodation. When she admitted that' she had stowed away she was given a third-class berth. When she was discovered she was wearing a fur coat and carrying a small suitcase. She was under the supervision of a member of the ship s company when the Niagara arrived at Auckland.
