BUTCHERS' EAVES SELL FIRMLY

At the weekly sale of slock at the Ashburton yards to-day there was a fairly good entry of sheep. The quality of ewes was better than at Tinwald last week, and values lor good butchers' lines advanced 2s to 2s 6d a head. Wethers and lambs also sold well.

Only five entries were received in the cattle pens, and no sales were effected. Fat ewes reached 19s 4d, Mr AV. S. Marshall (Winchmore) disposing of seven at this figure. Another six auctioned on account of the same vendor brought 18s 7d, and he also made I7s lOd tor a further six. Mr J. Cairns (Winchmore) made 16s 7d for seven, and a client sold two at the same figure. Mr P. Hyland (Elgin) disposed of 11 at 16s 4d, and a line of seven on account of a client brought the same money. Mr Marshall sold nine at 16s Id, and Mr Cairns eight at 16s Id. Top price for fat wethers was; 28s Id, Mrs A. 0. Long (Kyle) being the successful vendor of six at this sum. Mr A. Bennison (Seafield) received 23s 3d tor seven and 22s 7d for six.

Four fat lambs put up on behalf of Mr R. McDowell (Mayfield) realised 26s 4d and another four 23s lOd. Mrs S. Wilson (Ashbur.ton) sold one at 26s 6d, and Miss A. Whearty (Longbeach) one at 26s 3d. Mrs A. Prattley made 25s 7d for two, and Mr F, L. Sutton (AVakanui) realised 24s 7d for nine. Up to 12.15 o'clock prices were as follow:
