CARVED OAK STALLS.
AUCKLAND ORFORD MEMORIAL. (Special to the " Guardian.' ,, i AUCKLAND, May 2G. In memory of the late Earl of Orford, who died at his Mauurewa house on September 27, 1931, a unique gift has been made to St. Luke's Church, Manurewa, by the Countess ; of Orford and her daughter, Lady Ann Walpole. The gift which has a pergonal association with the late Baal, consists of two lofty and richly carved oak scdilia, or series of stalls for the use of clergy or choristers. The sedilia are each 12 feet in height and width. They are surmounted by arcaded canopies in decorated Gothic ■Style, each stall having oyer it a semicircular arch and crocheted gable filled With tracery. Between each pair of gables is a tall crocheted The •effect is extremely rich, and it is doubtful if stalls of equal magnificence ,are to be found in any other New Zealand church. ,
