WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.
MEETING AT AtXENTON. 'The Allenton Women's Institute met on Saturday, Mrs Stevenson presiding over a good attendance. _ It was decided to combine with other Institutes at a group meeting on July 6, Mrs F. Curtis was present, and explained the resolutions to be considered at the forthcoming conference, and also mentioned the choir contest to be held at Temuka. The roll call was children's sayings, and caused much amusement. A social afternoon was then spent, songs being contributed by Mrs H. J. Constable, who also led the community Ringing.' Dances were given by Misses Betty Fowke and Joyce Welch. Miss M. Kelly was the accompaniste. Two amusing competitions were held, and won by Mrs A. McKay, with Mrs A. Corbitt and Mrs Boothroyd, sen- (equal). The competitions resulted as follows: Knitted hot water bag cover: Mrs Chambers 1, Mrs L. Walker 2, Misses Goss and Copland (equal) 3. Plain nut loaf: Miss Goss 1, Mrs Noble 2. Miss Browne a. Chrysanthemums ; Mrs A. Walker 1. Mrs 'Corbitt 2, Mrs McElliinney 3.
