Advice lias 'been received stating that owing to rain and bad flying conditions Miss Jean Batten has abandoned her intention of reaching Charleville to-night. She landed at Blackall. She will be unable to reach Svdney before Wednesday. 'Miss Batten is held up at Blackall owing to magneto trouble. Her escorting aeroplane has gone to Brisbane, 600 miles, to procure a spare. Miss Batten spoke over the longdistance telephonue to Sydney. She said she was elated with her success and was overjoyed at the way the Australian people had taken her to their hearts. She was thrilled when she received telegrams of congratulation from their Majesties ,and also from the Governor-General of Australia and the Prime Minister of New Zealand. Miss Batten has eliminated B/ ls » a^ G from her itinerary and will flyi to taydney via Longreach and Bourke.
