THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) PARIS, May 24. In the French lawn tennis singles championship in the second round, A. Gentien defeated E. D. Andrews (New Zealand), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2; J. Hopman (Australia) defeated Cousin, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1; H. W. Austin (England) defeated Goldschmidt, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1; F. J. Perry (England) defeated Augustm, 6-4 6-'i, 6-1 • "V. MeGrath (Australia) defeated BillaiidaE. 6-3, 8-10, 6-2, 6-4; D. D. iPrenn (Germany) defeated J. Brugnon, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2; 0. Boussus defeated Ewbank, 6-0, 6-1, 6-L. In the women's singles, in the first round, Miss Hartigan defeated Mile. Goldschmidt, 6-4, 6-2; Mrs Moleswortb defeated Signorina Manzutto, 6-2, 6-3. In the second round Miss M. C. Scriven (holder) defeated Mile. Couquerque, 2-6. 6-4, 6-3. " The Franco-American women's match was marred by mishaps. Miss Marble, who had been indisposed for several days, insisted on playing against the doctor's advice. Opposing Madame Honrotin, who was leading 4-1 in the first set, Miss Marble suddenly fell in a dead faint. She was taken to hospital and ordered a long rest. Later Madame Henrotin, playing in the übitbles, fell, injuring her knee. Both matches were abandoned. France Avon the tournament by five games to two. THE DEFEAT OF ANDREWS. (Received This Day, 1.50 p.m.) PARIS, May 24. E. D. Andrews (New Zealand) was unable to cope with the quickness of Gentien.
