SPEED IN THE AIR.
REMARKABLE MACHINES.
200 MILES AN HOUR PROPHECY. LONDON, May 8. A British version oL the American Douglas air liner, which has a speed of 220 miles an hour, may be produced in England as the result of Herr Fokker, the Dutch aircraft designer, acquiring the European rights. . Herr Fokker yesterday criticised Imperial Airways, Limited, for achieving comfort and roominess at the expense of speed. He said ho considered almost all the equipment of the European services is ready for the scrap heap. The introduction of the DouglasLockhfead machine would greatly stimulate speed, which must in the near future reach 200 miles an hour. Herr Fokker said he believed that as .the Australian servico developed it would ultimately require aeroplanes carrying 50 passengers, but machines > larger than that would not be economical.
