Dilworth Sumpter, unsuccessful Socialist Congressional candidate at the last election, has confessed, according to the police, to attempting to rob a bank. A policeman surprised Sumpter digoino- a tunnel into the bank, from another building. The authorities found a pick, a shovel, drills and explosives. Sumpter, who is destitute, declared: "The world owes me a living. Everything I have attempted went wrong, and I made the usual mess of this job." Sumpter polled more votes than any other .Socialist in Arizona's history exceeding the vote given the Republican candidate, although the Democrat won.
