FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” Jan. 29, 1884). Ashburton School Committee.—The annual meeting of householders took place at the Borough School last evening, there being a very large attendance, the main schoolroom being croAvded Avitli voters. Mr John Orr Avas voted to the chair. , The annual report was adopted. The election of the committee was then proceeded with, the folioAving gentlemen being duly nominated: —Messrs % G. H. St. Hill, ‘S. Nelson, J. C. Dolman, F. T. Mayo, A.' Orr, A. Craighead, E. Reddin, T. Sealy, J. A. Caygill, G : . M. Robinson, G. Andrews, Rev. E. A. Scott, W. H. Zouch, and R. S. Bean. Mr George Jameson and' Dr. J. E. •Trevor were appointed scrutineers and, after counting the votes on the ballot papers, declared the following to be the result:—St. Hill 124, Reddin 122, Scott 106, Mayo 99, A. Orr 92, Sealy 91, Dolman 69, Andrews 54, Nelson 45, Craighead 39, Cfygill 38, Robinson 28, Bean 20, and Zouch 20. Messrs G. St. Hill, E. Reddin, Rev. E. A. Scott, F. T. Mayo, A. Orr, T. Sealy and J. C. Dolman Avere therefore elected the committee for the ensuing year. Wanted Known.—That in quence of the rapid increase 'of business, J. Moiscn, impermeable bootmaker, has been compelled to get a large stock of boots of a superior quality in the town in order to meet the demands of his customers, and those Avho may purchase from him will find no deception as to price or quality. As j.M. has gained the public trust in the past by doing the best Fork and fit, he intends even to make greater exertions in the future.

(Ashburton High School) was amongst the first nine candidates who qualified for the Education Board senior scholarships, and Miss Edith L. White (Hampstead) passed her pupil teacliei s examination. , Hinds v. Timvald Tennis.—A match was played yesterday at Hinds .between the Timvald and Hinds Tennis Clubs. Owing to the absence of several of their best jp%er&, 'the TinwaM-” - team was a weak one, and was defeated. by 79 games to 57.
