ACRIMONIOUS DEBATE IN DAIL
INCREASE IN INTIMIDATION. (United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 12. In the Dail, Mr F. McDermott, who was Minister for Justice in Mr Cosgrave's Cabinet, asked the Government whether there were to be any prosecutions in connection with the disturbance at Tralee when General O'Duffy was assaulted during a United Ireland Party demonstration. Mr P. Ruttledge (Minister for Justice) said he was not in a position to make a statement. The AttorneyGeneral Avas investigating the matter. Mr McDermott declared that he was dissatisfied with the reply. Mr McDermott, on a motion for adjournment, -vividly drew attention to'conditions in the Free State, declaring that the problem of intimidation had increased in seriousness since the formation of the United Irish Party. The first serious outbreak was at Limerick, when the police did their duty, resulting in orotests in which deputies supporting'Mr d© Valera participated. The Irish Republican Army organ had congratulated the mob on the occurrences at Tralee, which had involved injuries to General* O'Duffy, Mr F. Lynch .(formerly Minister for Lands) and others. Mr McDermott recalled the storming of his car at Limerick on October 5, when several persons should have been arrested. .All parties, ho said, should co-operate to deal with organised attempts to destroy the rights of citizenship. Mr Ruttledge s admission that no arrests had been made at Tralee disgraced the GovernMr Ruttledge replied that the At-torney-General . must decide whether charges could be made before a military tribunal or the ordinary Courts.
