A BRILLIANT DAY. The sim shone in a cloudless sky all day to-dav and conditions were ideal, onlv a light north-easterly breeze prevailing. A frost of 4.2 degrees intensity was experienced this morning. For the 24 hours ended at 9 o'clock this morning, one point of rain Avas recorded at the Domain weather station, making a total of 82 points sii;ce Wednesday morning when the rain commenced. The barometric pressure at 9 a.m. today was 30.06 inches, compared with 29.'96 inches yesterday morning. Extremes of shade .temperature yesterday and last night were 47.5 degrees and 31.4 degrees, while the figures on Wednesday were 45.7 degrees and 37.2 degrees.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: An anti-cyclone covers the north Tasman Sea and New Zealand. There has been a considerable fall of pressure already over Tasmania, however, and a series of westerly depressions of increasing intensity is likely to advanrtfaeross the South Tasman Sea during the next few days. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —

Light to moderate north-east to 2iortii-west winds freshening somewhat. Weather : Fair to fine and milder. Seas: Moderate.
