HEAVY TAXES ON MOTORISTS. THE FIGURES FOR LAST YEAR. to the "Guardian.") CrTRISTCHURCH, This Day. A total of £2,652,177 was paid by motorists of the Dominion for the year ended March 31, 1933, as taxation under legislation affecting motorists, according to a letter from the North Island Motor Union read at a meeting of the executive committee o'f the South Island Motor Union last night. "If these figures are quoted at your annual meeting or disseminated among your members in any other way," the letter said, "it will assist us in directing public opinion to the punishing nature of the class taxation now carried by the motorist." "It is a colossal amount," remarked Mr J. S. Hawkes.
