(From Our Own Correspondents.) LOWCLIFFE. The annual ball of the LoAvcliffe Football Club Avas held in the "AVhare," Coldstream. There Avas a very large attendance, visitors coming from surrounding districts. The success Avas largely due to a social committee, under the chairmanship of Mr K. Hawkins, consisting of Mr N. HaAvke, G. Woodham, J. Keenan, and J. Johnstone. Greenery and coluured streamers formed gay decorations, Avhile Chapman's Band supplied the music. Novelty dances were Avon by Miss Stevens (Eiffelton) and Mr F. OnsAvorth, Miss N. Sclater and Mr G. Woodhani, Mrs W. H. Smith (PleasarftToint) and Mr Kelland (Hinds), and Mrs R. Bonnington and Mr J. Harris. Extras were played by Miss N. Sclater, Miss K. Johnstone, Mr R. Davidson and Mr Wilfrey (bagpipes). During the evening a guessing competition was held. This resulted in a tie between Miss I. Haack and Mr F. Evans. Mr Jack Keenan Avas M.C. MAYFIELD. The Mayfield branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held a euchre and bridge evening in the agricultural and pastoral association's rooms. There Avas a large attendance. Prizes in the bridge went to Mrs Turner and Mr Raymond Oakley, and the euchre was Avon by Mr Allan Oakley and Mrs Ellcry. Consolation prizes Avent to Mrs ft. B. Murdoch and Mr W. Turner in the bridge, and to Mrs Keen and Mr S. Scavcll in the euchre. RAKAIA. The monthly meeting of the South Rakaia Road Board was presided OA'er by Mr H. Harrison. Other members present AA'ere: Messrs J. Lambie, W. Lethasn and A. Doig. The financial statement showed receipts for the month totalling £420 16s Bd, including subsidy on rates amounting to £231 9s 7d and accounts for payment totalling £332 8s Bd. The credit balance at the bank Avas £784 8s Sd. The report stated that Farquhar's Road formation had been completed and 22 chains metalled; McLachlan's Road, 24 chains metalled ; 530yds of metal had been put on Mainwaring's Road. A deputation from the local Unemployment Committee Avaited on the board in connection with a supply of wood for next winter and it was decided to have wood cut.
