FIGURES FOR EIGHT MONTHS.

BUSINESS GENERALLY BENEFITS

(Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, September 12. From many reliable sources recently evidence has been forthcoming of a definite improvement in trading conditions in Great Britain. The best possible confirmation is provided by the Board of Trade returns, issued to-day, which show that improvement has not confined to a few trades and industries, but has extended to business generally. For the eight months to the end of' August imports decreased by about £35,200,000, compared with the corresponding period last year, • while oyer the same period the decrease in exports was about £1,500,000, but in recent months the figures have tended fo improve, and those for August are regarded as exceptionally encouraging. The increase in import's is entirely due to the larger amounts of raw materials entering the country. Some principal increases in exports, compared with a year ago, occur N in iron, steel, non-ferrous metals, woollen manufactures, electrical goods and cutlery and hardware, Exports of British automobiles also continue to increase. —British Official Wireless.
