MINIATURE RIFLES.

THE METHVEN CLUB. There was another good attendance at the shoot of the Methven Miniature Rifle Club held on Saturday night. Some fine shooting was. put up. For the club trophy the best scores were:—T. Middleton 67, (5), 66 (winner) ; G. Waddington 66, (4), 65; H. Noble 70, (scr), 68. The hotty button was won by H. Noble, with 68 and 67. Other good scores were: T. Middleton 68, 65; W. Lumsden 67; E. Ferguson 67; W. Law 66. A miniature shield presented by Mr W. R. Barrett (Christchurch) was keenly competed for and produced some good shooting. The conditions were two shoots, all with a total score of 140 to shoot off. Four competitors tied and after six shoot-offs two were left

in. Smaller targets were then used. M. Holland was the winner of the coveted trophy. The scores were: —M. Holland 68, 70 (handicap 4)—140; T. Middleton 67, 65 (10) —140; W. Law 69, 68 (10)—140; J. E. Carr 70, 69 (4)— 140. In the shoot-off the scores were: M. Holland 70, (handicap 2), 69, 69, 68, 68, 69, 69; T. Middleton 70 (5), 66, 65, 66, 68, 68, 64; W. Law 67, (5), 64; J. E. Carr 67 (2). For the club championship and Springfield Shield, H. Noble' is in an unassailable position, having dropped only 11 points in 18 shoots, which is a remarkably good performance. Two shoots remain to complete the championship series.
