COOKS AND STEWARDS
INCREASED WAGES SOUGHT. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 28. A Conciliation Council began to-day the hearing of a dispute affecting the cooks and stewards on coastal steamers, excluding Union Company vessels. The application for an award was filed in 1931, and the parties went to the Arbitration Court on certain clauses in March, 1932. Before the award was made the Act was amended and the case was referred back to the council The. Union'asks for the restoration of the first 10 per cent, cut, and an additional 10 per cent, increase.
