DUNEDIN POST OFFICE.
ERECTION IN DOUBT. (Her Press Association). AUCKLAND, August 28. Comment was made to-clay by the secretary of the Auckland Builders’ Association (Mr R. G. Norton) on a Dunedin report that only three Dunedin firms tendered for the building of the Post Office. He said that three leading Auckland firms tendered, and it was reliably reported in the trade that the tenders totalled nine «or ten. He regarded the [Dunedin report as indicating the possibility that the Government will not proceed with the work. There was no more risk to-day legarding fluctuating prices than at any other time. It was a most advantageous time for securing low prices. The cost of tendering for such a job would he not less than £2OO per tender and it would be a shameful breach of faith if the Government,. having involved contractors and sub-contractors in heavy expense, should decide not to proceed with the work. The Government should not allow any doubt, to prevail as to its intentions.
NO COMMENT BY MINISTER. WELLINGTON, August 28. The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener) declines to comment on the Auckland and Dunedin reports that the Government may not accept a tender for the Dunedin Post Office.
