There has been very little activity in the grain and produce markets since last week-end, the holiday period having affected business. Potatoes are still weak, the demand from tiie North Island having remained very limited. Persistent rumours that a further shipment to South America has been arranged are in circulation, but so far nothing has occurred to substantiate them. In the meantime the market is extremely dull. AUCKLAND, August 8. . The potato ■ market has definitely slipped since tho last report, and values are at the lowest level that has ruled for some time. Spot stocks are plentiful, and merchants are quoting from £6 to £6 os, ex wharf, and £6 10s through store. Onions are still coming up from the south, but the quality is indifferent and merchants prefer to pay Is a hundredweight more for local-grown in good condition. Consumption is fairly good. The fowl wheat market is steady at 4s lid to 5s a bushel. The market for oats and chaff is exceedingly quiet. Quotations for oats are unaltered, but, for chaff merchants have lowered their price 10s a ton to £6 ss. , Maize prices are unchanged, and merchants are content to buy from hand to mouth. Ex store quotations rule from 4s 3d to 4s 6d a bushel. Prices for bran and pollard are unchanged. Australian pollard sells freely, and there is a fair demand for bran.
