BASKETBALL.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. TWO NEW CLUB'S AFFILIATED. The executive of the Ashburton Basketball Association met last evening, the president (Mr R. J. Thompson) occupying the chair. The Hokitika Association wrote requesting a game for the touring team in August and the secretary’s action in advising that August 20 would be suitable was confirmed. The social committee was empowered to make arrangements for the week-end and it was mentioned that .so far billets for only seven girls had been secured. Tho Temuka Association invited senior A and B representative teams to visit Temuka on September 2 and tho matter was left to the coaches to discuss with the players this evening. Transport arrangements for tho representative team which will visit Timaru on August 19, was also left to the coaches and the players. The New Zealand Association wrote stating that the Association had paid only £7 of its annual fees of £lO owing to a misunderstanding. The agenda

and remits for the annual meeting was also forwarded. A committee consisting of Messrs Thompson and S. G. Macfarlane, Miss M. Spiller and the secretary Miss E. P. Thompson) was set up to consider the remits and instruct the delegate accordingly. The Chertsey and Rokeby clubs were granted affiliation to the Association. The Lyndhurst Club stated that owing to the expenses of travelling it was unable to contribute the £5 asked by the Association. It was decided to accept wliatever sum the club could contribute. The newly-formed Waiareka Croquet Club applied for the use of the Association’s pavilion during the summer months. It was agreed to offer the pavilion at a rental of 5s a week. If the offer is accepted, water will be laid on and a path put down in front of the building. The chairman reported that £1 7s had been collected last Saturday, i Mr Macfarlane was appointed re-feree-manager of the representative team to visit Timaru on August 19. It was decided to play the nine-a-side tournament on Saturday under hand;-' cap conditions, the teams to be handicapped according their place in the competitions, Messrs Thompson and Macfarlane and Miss C. Tyndall were appointed liandicappers. It was further agreed to present the pins instead of the usual medals and to play the junior and third grade ira a combined junior grade. To mark the close of the season, players were asked to bring a basket and it was stated that afternoon tea would be served at a small charge. Miss N. Flynn was appointed to take charge of the blackboard. Congratulations were extended to Miss Spiller upon her appointment as sole 'Selector of the North Island team to play the annual match with the jSoutli Island at the New Zealand tourney.

Mr C. Ides gave notice of Jus intention to move at a general meeting of the Association that no club belonging to the Association should play a match with another club not affiliated without the consent of the executive.
