NAPIER-GISBORNE RAILWAY. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 4. Under the legislation of last session, it is possible that a private company may take over the assets and complete the Napier-Gisborne railway line, and conduct it is a private undertaking. Proposals to this etfecfc nave recently been the subject of a discussion by a committee of Railway Department officers with the chairman of the Railways Board, Mr H. H. Sterling. The committee has been considering conditions under which the line might be transferred, audits deliberations have now been completed. The members of-Parliament "for the districts concerned—Hawke's Bay, Napier, Gisborne, and Bay of Plenty—have been informed of the conclusions reached. Asked to-day if he was in a position to make public the proposals of the committee, the Acting-Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, said he could not do so at the moment. The proposals had been forwarded to the members concerned, and it would be for them to make them public if they so desired. , The two members of Parliament who have been most intimately concerned with the negotiations are Mr H. M. Campbell and Mr K. S. Williams, and Mr W. D. Lysnar, the former member for Gi'sborne,' has also been taking an active interest in the matter.
