GOLD MINING.
ACTIVITY IN OTAGO. (Special to the "Guardian.") DUNEDIN, August 3. Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P., who has left for Wellington, said that a great deal of money was flowing into Otago Central at tho present time in connection with gold mining schemes. Great activity was noticeable in many parts, but particularly in the St. Ihitlians-Cambriaus-Matakaniui area. Deep leads ini that portion of Otago were being geophysically surveyed, and these investigations would be followed by boring to test the field thoroughly. Mr Bodkin was very optimistic about this field, which he thought would yield considerable quantities of gold. Beef mining was also receiving a good deal of attention, but some time must elapse before anything definite would be heard of these fields, because thorough investigations would have to be mado before the amount of capital necessary for their development was known.
