Dr. R. A. Shore (Inspector of Hospitals) pajd a visit to the Ashburton Public Hospital to-day, on his way north. The Rev. Fathec T. W. Price, of Methven, left Christchurch on Friday evening for Wellington, en route to Rochester (America) and England. The Rev. lather Joyce, of Riccarton, has been appointed to "Methven during his absence. Mr A. B. Lane (manager of Ike United Press Association) will represent the Association during the Gcver nor-General's visit- to the South Sea Islands in H.M.S. Diomede, leaving Auckland to-morrow (says a Press Association message from Wellington). The Rev. E. T. Cox, M.A., a Methodist minister of Mornington and formerly of Auckland, has announced his candidature for the Mayoralty of Dunedin, making four candidates so far. Mr Cox explains he is standing because the City Council reduced its allocation for the unemployed. At the last meeting of Session and Deacons' Court of St. Paul's Church, Highfield (Timaru), the Rev. Adam Begg stated that it was his intention to place his resignation in .the hands of Presbytery at its meeting in May. During his ministry, Mr Begg has occupied four charges, Tapanui, Rakaia, Wallac.etown, and St. (Paul's. Sincere regret was expressed by the meeting at Mr, Begg's coming retirement, and approva'l of .the good work he had done in Highfield was warmly expressed. To mark the appointment of Mr W. Williamson as manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company's branch at Ashburton, the members of the Christchurch staff met recently and presented him with an easy chair. Practically every member of .the staff was present to show their appreciation of his popularity, and after the senior members had expressed their good wishes for his future welfare, the manager (Mr W. C. Brydon) asked his acceptance of the gift with every good wish for the future. Mr J. J. Mulvey, formerly Postmaster at Masterton and previouslv at Ashburton, and Mrs Mulvey, will leave Masterton in a fortnight to take up their residence in Geraldine, where one of their sons has a farm. Mr Mulvey is an active member of a number of organisations in Masterton, including the Park Bowling Club, the Workers' Educational Association, and the Savage Club. He is known also as a popular entertainer at social functions.
