OLD PUPILS MEET.

THE ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL THE CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH (Special to the " Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. "Without the support of the younger members, the association cannot hope to attain to its full measure of .success," said Mr R. de G. Robilliard (president of the North Canterbury branch of the Ashburton High School Old Pupils' Association) at the annual meeting last evening. There was a satisfactory attendance of old pupils. Apologies were received from Mrs R. J. Camm and Mr H. Chapman. The second annual report stated that the first branch of the Ashburton High School Old Pupils' Association had been formed in Christchurch, and a roll of approximately 200 odd pupils had been drawn up. However, the enthusiasm shown at the beginning when 42 members attended the opening reunion was not sustained. The committee had been successful in persuading the parent association to adopt an attractive small bronze and enamel badge to be worn in the coat lapel. An old pupils' blazer had been instituted, which was most attractive and one of which old pupils could be proud, as it compared more than favourably with any other Mazer. _ The parent association was now an incorporated society with registered rules making provision for branches, etc. In conclusion, members were urged to show greater enthusiasm in supporting social functions, and it was also remarked that the lack of subscriptions had been a great handicap. . A tribute was "aid to the secretarial work of Mr J. Lane, to whose efforts the branch owed its formation and continuation. The Rev. ID. K. Boyd said he regretted the absence of a definite programme, which resulted in a lack of contact with the school. He urged greater co-operation between the school and the Old Pupils' Association, and subsequent speakers also upheld this point of view. To rectify this, it was suggested that a party of members travel to the annual school break-up. 'Suggestions were also made to bring old pupils in Christchurch into contact with one another, and that a list of all old pupils resident in . North Canterbury be forwarded to members. In regard to the matter of. the "pirating" of blazers, Mr R. de G. Robilliard said that owing to its distinctive badge and design the Ashburton High School Old Pupils' blazer would be free from this objectionable practice. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr E. A. Cockroft; president, Mr J. Lane 5 vice-presidents, Mrs R. J. Camm, Messrs S. Thomas and V. C McPhail; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr R. T. Clarke; committee, Miss J. Service, Messrs A. L. Lewis, R. Pennev, J. E. Rigby, C. Av Lines, and the Rev. D. K. Boyd. After the meeting, members spent an-enjoyable social hour.
