TRADE WITH CHINA.

FURTHER POSSIBILITIES WHEAT CARGOES FOR SHANGHAI (Special to the " Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The question of New Zealand opening up avenues of .trade with the East is raised through the shipment of 7700 tons of surplus wheat to be made from Canterbury at the beginning of next month. The destination of the wheas is Shanghai. ■lt is stated .that there is a good prospect of the Dominion opening up trade with the East if such is undertaken in a systematic manner. Britain, which was further from Japan and China than was New Zealand, was able to send goods to the East, so the Dominion could also find an outlet for its commodities. In wheat export, however, New Zealand could scarcely compete with Australia as regards price. The shipment of wheat next month will not be the first of its kind from the Dominion, as in 1922 a shipment Of 1,250,000 bushels was sent to Japan by the New Zealand Government, which at that time was in control of the marketing of wheat. .
