STEAMER SINKS

The steamer Haleric, bound- flrom the Tyne to Australia, sank oft* Paternoster Point, 20 miles north of Saldahna. The vessel struck a reef yesterday afternoon, but extricated herself. The forward hold filled with water and the bulkhead yielded at 10 o'clock this morning. The crew scrambled into the lifeboats and were rescued by a Cape Town tug, which, responded to a wireless call sent last night.
