Sir Hubert Wilkins, the Australian explorer, addressing a luncheon at the "Western Universities Club to-day, revealed some of the plans of the Ellsworth Antarctic Expedition, which he will accompany as a correspondent. Sir, Hubert will sail for Norway next Tuesday. The expedition's ship is scheduled to sail from Norway about August 1 to New Zealand, and will leave the Dominion for its base in the Bay of Whales about -November 1, arriving about December 15. The personnel of the expedition, including Sir Hubert Wilkins, Mr Lincoln Ellsworth and Bernt Balchen, the pilot, will consist of only fifteen men, the smallest party ever to make such a journey. Only one aeroplane will be taken for the flight across the. Ross ISea. Sir Hubert reiterated the" statement that the object of the expedition was "a flight of discovery." It hopes to determine if the Ross Sea flows through the Antarctic continent or if it is terminated by a mountain range after about'soo miles. The aeroplane, which is equipped with specially - designed skis, has a maximum speed of 200 miles an hour. It is hoped to complete the 3000-mile trip over the Ross Sea and return in 20 hours.. An automatic ,camera attached to the aeroplane will take photographs of the trip at the rate of one every sis seconds.
