MAINLY OVERCAST AND CHILLY The sky remained overcast most of this morning, .the sun breaking through only once or twice. However, .the clouds scattered somewhat about midday, but the sky did not clear, the sun shining only at intervals during the afternoon. With a cocl wind from the north-east, the air was chilly. The temperature was not as low last night as it was on Monday night. Extremes of shade temperature recorded at the IDbmain weather station yesterday and last night were 75.3 degrees and 43.1 degrees, compared with readings of 03.2 degrees and 34.2 degrees on Monday. , . The barometric pressure at 9 o clock this morning was 30.6 inches, compared with 29.8-5 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association') WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: An extensive anti-cyclone ctfrers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. There are siens of the development of a cyclone ofF the east coast of Australia. The forecast for the east eonsb of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Variable light to fresh winds with southerlies prevailing. Weather: Mainly fair to cloudy and cool, misty rain likely on parts of the coast. Sens: Piather rcngh about Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate.
