(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, October 30. , The pilot and mechanic of a German mail ’plane were rescued by a steamer. The ’plane has not been traced. RECEIPT OF S.O.S. SIGNAL. LONDON, October 30. A German air mail freight ’plane, with a crew consisting of a pilot and a mechanic, left Croydon during a heavy gale at 8.55 p.m. At 9.37 p.m. an S.O.S. message was received- from the aeroplane but her position was not indicated. The machine should then have been over the Channel and the Dover life-boat and other vessels in the vicinity carried out a fruitless search all through the night.
