METHVEN. The annual meeting of the Methven Caledonian Society was held in, the Town Hall last evening. Mr J. T. Goodwin presided over a large attendance. The election of officers resulted : Patron, Air J. Connolly, M.P.,; president, Mr G. Kelly; vice-presidents, Messrs W. J. Bennett and A. Scott ; lion, secretary, Air AV. J. Owen; lion, treasurer, Mi- A. AV. Bremer; committee, Messrs H. Reid, H. Mclntosh, J. Cook, I. Sooon, \A T . C. Lowery, D. Alaclennan, G. Johns, E. A. Fitzgibbon, J. Petrie, A. W. AAYigiit, G. Brown, W. Iv. Wilson, E. A. Bland, H. Ellis and G. Olds,' with all past presidents ex officio. The secretary reported that a permit had been procured for amateur running and cycling events and for piping and dancing events for January 3, and that the Methven Trotting Club had granted the use of the racecourse for the day. Conveners of sub-commit-tees were appointed as follows: —Running, Mr N. Alclntosh ; cycling, Mr AA r . J. Bennett; piping and dancing, Mr H. Reid; tug-of-war, Air E. A. Fitz•gibbon; field events, Mr J. R. Dalton, local and ladies’ and children’s sports, Mr J. Cook. The "sub-committees were instructed to place their reports before a general meeting of the committee next Thursday. Mr G. Brown offered a medal for it local cycle event and his offer was accepted with thanks. Fourteen new members were elected. Advice was received from tho Railway Department that a special train service would he arranged in connection with the sports. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing officials and committee.

RAKAIA. On Thursday evening in St. Mark’s' Schoolroom a successful social was held in aid of the funds of the Rakaia Settlement Hockey Club. There was a large attendance. Competitions were won by Miss O. Smith and Mr C. Jordan and a consolation prize was presented to Airs Slaney. Music for the dancing was supplied by Alls O’Reilly, Misses F. Cornelius and A. Keane, aim Messrs F. Behrnes, AV. A. "Smith, L. Keane and T. Lawler. A lucky spot waltz was won by Aliss Julia Turton and Mr F. Cornelius. Many old-time dances were introduced. Soiigs were sung by Air L. Keane. Air L. Botherway was M.C.
