LESS DISOBEDIENCE.
INDIAN CONDITIONS IMPROVE GANDHI STILL A PRISONER. (United Press Association—Copyright) CALCUTTA, October 27. The Viceroy, replying to a letter from.Maulana Ali, a prominent Moslem leader, reiterated the Government’s intention of not releasing M. Gandhi till he dissociated himself from the civil disobedience movement. It is generally recognised that disobedience is dying under firm handling by the Government, though the’ Nationalist Press pretend that there are still 60,000 Congressmen throughout India imprisoned. The actual figure is only 19,000 and is rapidly falling. A majority of those released- are refraining from returning to their old ways.
