THE ENGLISHMEN AT PERTH. MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIAN XL (United Press Association-Copyright.) PERTrf, October 2t. There was ideal sunshine to-day for the match between the M.C.C. team and a combined Australian eleven, including Don. Bradman and other interState players. The wicket was good "The attendance totalled 11,000, and the receipts amounted, to £BB3. Englaiad won the toss and elected to bat on a perfect wicket. Leyland was out to McCabe in the second over. The Nawab of Pataudi and Sutcliitc, playing carefully., topped the century. There were many changes of bowling, Bradman, Halcombe, McCabe, Martin, and Evans being tried, but they did not show much sting. Play generally was slow, but relieved by smart fielding, especially by Bradman, who returned marvellously, and also by artistic strokes of the Nawab of Pataudi. Sutcliffe was solid and slow, but made attractive strokes all round the wicket. He got his 169 runs in 235 minutes, including one six and 16 fours. Pataudi showed extremely strong leg. strokes, and gave another fine display, using his wrists to most strokes apparently without effort. His century, got in 108 minutes, included 11 fours. Hammond gave his usual display of forceful defence, nt times going halfway down the pitch to meet slow balls.

His footwork was beautiful to watch. Ames had not sufficient time to show his qualities. McCabe was the best bowler, the batsmen treating him with great respect. The local bowlers were well pasted. The fielding was excellent, especially Bradman and the other players from the eastern States. Scores: ENGLAND.
