FAITH IN SAVINGS BANK.

NO RUSH OF WITHDRAWALS. SYDNEY, January 14. To-day’s release of the full amount of the depositors’ balances in the New South Wales Government Savings Bank, now merged with the Commonwealth Bank, aggregating £50,000,000, revealed that the lack of faith in this institution while under New South Wales control had completely vanished. There was no, rush of depositors to withdraw their money, and the big staff of paying tellers waited for a quarter of an hour after the opening of the Commonwealth Bank before a. solitary depositor in the defunct State Bank presented *a withdrawal slip. The Commonwealth Bank authorities a,re delighted with the turn affairs have taken. • Mr E. O. Riddle, a governor of ftho bank, declared: “It is quite apparent that the people trust us as we trust them. We do not anticipate any run on the funds after this.”
