MOTOR-CAR SPEED.
STATEMENT BY HARKNESS.
ALLEGED CLAIM DENIED.
(United Press 'Association-Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) ! SYDNEY, This Day. Don Harkness informed the Press that he definitely dissociates himself from any claim that “Wizard” Smith’s car is designed or intended to achieve speeds in the vicinity of. 300 miles an horn*. “We are dealing with many unknown factors. It- would be unwise to make any prediction. My mission has been to build a car for bettering the existing record, but I have not yet aimed at such a high rate of speed as is freely reported. It is undesirable that such ambitious statements should bo made and circulated, although if the Fred. H. Stewart Enterprise is successful, as I hope it will be, its gearing may be modified to attain still more phenomenal speeds.”
