RIOTING IN TOKIO
OPPOSITION ADHERENTS. THE POLICE ROUGHLY HANDLED MANY ADMITTED' TO HOSPITAL. (United Press Association —Copyright). (Received This Day, 8.25 a.m.) TOKIO, March 19. The approach of the end of the session was marked by a huge open-air rally of 30,000 adherents of the Opposition, with, the object of passing a resolution of no-confidence in the Government and demanding the resignation of the Premil'. To prevent hostile demonstrations against the Diet, an emergency force of 6000 police was grouped at strategic points. Hundreds were arrested. Many were admitted to hospital, including police, who were in the centre of the conflict at Shiba Park, where thousands of agitators fought a pitched battle with the police, groups of whom they roughly handled. Strong guards were placed at the Diet and other important points throughout the night.
