TINWALD STOCK MARKET. YESTERDAY'S PRICES. RISE RECORDED. / ' Toward the end of the Tinwald stock sale yesterday the price of fat sheep took'a sharp rise of about 3s a head, compared with the price at Ashburton sale last week. The entry was smaller than usual, and there was keen competition among butchers and freezers. Mr G. H. McTague topped the market with a pen of six lambs which realised 14s ]OcI, the remainder averaging from lis 4d to 14s 4d. The top price for ewes was 8s 9d, secured by Mr J. Fleming, Methven, for a pen of nine three-quarterbreds. The next best price, 7 s 3d, also went to the same vendor. "Wethers also sold well, the top price being 12s 4d. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (Special to "Tlie Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. No appreciable change has taken place in the grain market during the past few days. The steadying process in the wheat market continues, hut offerings are still plentiful. Millers have restricted activity slightly, but a good demand is still maintained. There is much fowl wheat available. Oat samples show a much-needed improvement in quality, but this is only slight and crops are generally under normal. j Local onions are not selling to any great extent owing to Australian importations clogging the market at low prices. Potato merchants report a quiet market with dull prospects. The following are quotations for produce to be paid to farmers, on trucks, free of commission, sacks extra, except where otherwise stated:— Wheat— 5s 3d a bushel for Tuscan, 5s 3d for Hunters, and 5s 4d to 5s 5d for Pearl, for good milling quality. Fowl Wheat—4s 3d to 4s Gd a hushel ; second quality, 3s 6d to 4s a bushel. Oats—Gartons, 2s to 2s 3d a bushel; Algerian, Is 9d to 2s. Chaff— £2 15s a ton. Potatoes—£3 a ton. Onions—£4 a ton for March-April delivery. Red Clover —4d to Gd per lb. White Clover—Gd to 9d a lb. Ryegrass—Perennial, 2s Gd to 3s; Italian and Western Worths Is i)d to 2s a bushel. Cocksfoot—3d to 4d a lb. Bran.—Local, £5 10s a ton; shipping £4 10s a ton; 10s extra for smaller packings. Pollard—Local £6 5s a ton; shipping, £4 15s a ton; 10s extra for smaller packings. The local market for grain and produco is steadier than has been the case in recent weeks, and it .seems probable that the downward trend of prices has definitely been arrested in all main lines. Values are considerably lower than has been the case for many years. B'Carton oats are selling at 3s 8d per bushel ox store, compared with 5s at this time last year. Chaff is unaltered at £8 per ton. Fowl wheat is steady at Cs 9d to 6s 10s per bushel for graded lines. Maize is unchanged at 5s 8d per bushel. The prices oi onions are unchanged. Pukekohe supplies still command 10s Gd per cwt ex store, with Victorian Is 6d to 2s cheaper. Pukekohe dealers are quoting potatoes at '£s 10s on truck's, and onions at £7 ss. WHEAT IN BRITAIN. LONDON, March 16. Wheat cargoes are quiet and occasionally lower. Parcels show a threepence decline, and attract little attention. The cntrv yesterday totalled 11.200, as against 12.300 last year, a fallingoff which was not as large as many had expected from the large reductions at previous fairs this year.
