ANOTHER SHAKE EXPERIENCED.

TWO SHARP SHOCKS. TREMORS NEAR GISBORNE. (Per Press Association). GISBORNE, March 17. That earthquakes are not finished with is clearly evident in the Tiniroto district, about 30 miles from Gisborne. Since February scores of shakes have been experienced, hardly a day passing without a disturbance. To-day appeared to be the first .day of complete quietness, and residents were congratulating themselves, when, at 8.39 p.m. and 8.44 p.m., two good sharp shocks were experienced. During the scores of shakes houses were rocked, and several additional chimneys came down. Residents divide the 'quakes into three forms: (1) A sudden jolt; (2) a smooth undulation, gradually working to a climax and gradually dying away; and (3) a gentle swing of the earth, which on occasions continues for over ten minutes.

A steady increase in returning residents brings the number to over 6000 during the week, when (500 people registered, against 200 during the previous week. Of last week's total 572 are former residents and 88 nonresidents. The attendances at the schools are also increasing rapidly. Unemployed men are now officially stated to total 125. Citizens camped at Nelson Park number 505, compared with 719 a week ago. Some tent dwellers arrived by train to live in the Park a few days, pending putting their homes in order. Some of the buildings are far from habitable. Provision lias been completed for .50 patients at the new temporary hospital on the old site on Hospital Hill Nurses' accommodation has been provided at the McHardy maternity home.
